A Journey Through Advent with Pope Benedict XVI
Come with us this Advent as we journey through the season’s four Sundays with Pope Benedict XVI.
Deacon Fred will begin LIVE LESSONS on this course on November 30, 2021 at 10 am (PST)
In his homily given at the First Vespers of the First Sunday of Advent in 2005, Pope Benedict XVI spoke about two senses in which Christ the Lord comes to us. Jesus will come at the second coming, his final coming to the sound of trumpet and in glory on the last day. Yet he also desires to come to us in the present, each and every moment, where he persistently invites us into an intimate relationship of personal communion with him. Commenting on this, Benedict said the following:
“Yet there is not only the final coming at the end of time: in a certain sense the Lord always wants to come through us. And he knocks at the door of our hearts: are you willing to give me your flesh, your time, your life?”
Come with us this Advent as we journey through the season’s four Sundays with Pope Benedict XVI.
In this course of live lessons, you’ll read and meditate on the scripture readings given in the holy sacrifice of the Mass on Sunday’s during Advent. You’ll dive deeper into those readings, their historical context, as well as their spiritual and theological meaning.
Finally, you’ll learn how each of the readings tie into some of Pope Benedict’s richest teachings that he gave over the years during Advent.
Advent is a time of preparation for the arrival of the Lord Jesus, who comes to us in history, in mystery, and in majesty. Make the most of the season of Advent. Prepare to meet the Lord, the Savior and Redeemer whose boundless love travels to the end of the earth to reach you.
