What is the origin of the physical universe? How did it begin, and how can we explain its development in terms of the divine faith of the Church?
The Big Bang theory does not explain why the universe came into being, nor does it actually explain its primary or first-order cause. It does not tell us who or what created the universe. It simply theorizes about the characteristics of the universe as it existed in its primal state of development.
As important as the Big Bang theory is, it doesn’t address essential questions such as, why does the universe exist at all? Why is there something rather than nothing? And, given that the universe began from a primeval atom, what caused this tiny yet immensely powerful particle to exist in the first place?
Objective: In this course, students will learn about the Origin of the Universe and the role of the Creator. Students will learn why reason, faith, and science properly understood are compatible. With this course, students will be able to explain some of the history behind the big bang theory and why the divine sciences of philosophy and theology must be used to answer questions about the first-order cause of the universe.
