Is the Devil real, and who and what is the Devil? Although there are many people in the world who don’t think the Devil is real, Sacred Scripture firmly attests to his existence. For example, in 1st Peter we read, “Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking some one to devour” (5:8). Peter is not referring to an abstract, dark force, but to a real, personal and invisible being.

The Lord Jesus speaks of the Devil as the “prince” or “ruler” of this world (John 12:31; 14:30) and calls him a “murderer from the beginning” who is a “liar and the father of lies,” for he has “nothing to do with the truth” (John 8:44).

There’s no question that the Devil is real. In fact, one of the more serious mistakes anyone can make is to doubt or reject his existence. But who is the devil? And what kind of power does the Devil and other demons have over us?

Objective: In this course, students will learn who the Devil is and what he can do. Students will learn why the Devil does what he does and what the best remedy against the Devil is.
