In today’s world, there’s a lot of confusion swirling around the priesthood. Many people have no idea who priests are, whether they’re important, or what they actually do. They’re like mystery men in black. But it doesn’t stop there.

Beginning with the Old Testament, the priesthood has a long history. Catholics often emphasize the necessity of priests and their essential role in the Church with statements like: “No priests, no holy Mass” or “No priests, no Eucharist.” As true as these statements are, the fact that validly ordained priests are granted the power to act in Christ’s name and in his person is truly extraordinary.

Objective: In this course, students will learn all about Catholic priests. Students will learn where the idea originated, why we call priests "Father" and what is meant by Holy Orders.
