Objective: Students will learn about the great gift of the Sacrament of Confession and God’s endless mercy.

They will understand:

  • That all people sin because of Original Sin and our fallen human nature.
  • That God never stops loving us and always invites us to return to Him.
  • That Jesus died on the Cross so that our sins could be forgiven.
  • That Jesus gave the Church the Sacrament of Reconciliation so His forgiveness would remain with us throughout time.
  • That in Confession, the priest acts in the person of Christ to forgive sins through the power Jesus gave the Apostles.
  • That mortal sin breaks our friendship with God, and Confession restores us to sanctifying grace.
  • That venial sins also harm our relationship with God and should be confessed to grow in holiness.
  • That we must examine our conscience, be truly sorry for our sins, confess honestly, and complete our penance.
  • That by going to Confession regularly, we grow in virtue, strengthen our souls against temptation, and draw closer to eternal life with God.
