Objective: Students will learn about God’s providence, mercy, and plan for His chosen people through the life of Joseph, the son of Jacob. They will understand:

  • That Jacob loved Joseph and gave him a special coat, which made his brothers jealous and led them to sin.
  • That Joseph’s dreams were messages from God, showing that Joseph would one day play an important role in saving his family.
  • That jealousy can cause anger and harm, but God can bring good even from evil actions.
  • That Joseph was sold into slavery in Egypt, falsely accused, and imprisoned, yet he remained faithful to God.
  • That God gave Joseph the gift of wisdom to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams and prepare for the famine.
  • That Joseph’s suffering became a blessing, as he saved Egypt and many nations from starvation.
  • That Pharaoh honored Joseph by making him governor, second only to Pharaoh himself.
  • That Joseph forgave his brothers and recognized that God had used their betrayal to accomplish His greater plan.
  • That Joseph’s story teaches us to trust in God’s providence, because He can use difficulties and hardships for good.
  • That Joseph points us to Jesus, who was also rejected, suffered unfairly, and through His sacrifice saved the world.
