Objective: Students will learn about God’s faithfulness, promises, and plan for His chosen people through the lives of Isaac, Esau, and Jacob. They will understand:

  • That Esau was the firstborn son entitled to the birthright, but he gave it away to Jacob for a single meal.
  • That a birthright was a sacred inheritance of blessings, land, and leadership in the family.
  • That baptism gives us a spiritual birthright — the promise of eternal life — which we must treasure and protect.
  • That Isaac’s blessing was meant for Esau, but Jacob, with Rebekah’s help, disguised himself and received it instead.
  • That sin, like Jacob’s disguise, can hide our true identity as children of God, but prayer and Confession keep us in His grace.
  • That Jacob worked many years for Laban, first marrying Leah and then Rachel, showing patience and faith in God’s plan.
  • That Leah and Rachel remind us of God’s covenants: the Old Covenant with Abraham’s descendants and the New Covenant fulfilled in Jesus.
  • That Jacob’s twelve sons became the leaders of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, God’s chosen people.
  • That God changed Jacob’s name to Israel, showing He had a new mission for him and proving His faithfulness to Abraham’s promise.
  • That the land of Israel and the story of God’s people remind us today that God always keeps His promises and prepares His people for the Savior, Jesus.
