Objective: Students will learn about the gift of holiness and how Jesus gives us the grace to become saints through the Sacraments. They will understand:

  • That God calls every person to live a holy life and to grow closer to Him.
  • That Jesus instituted the seven Sacraments to give us grace and strengthen us in the Christian life.
  • That the Sacraments are outward signs that truly give God's grace.
  • That each of the seven Sacraments has a special purpose in God's plan for our lives.
  • That Baptism begins our life of grace and welcomes us into God's family.
  • That the Eucharist nourishes us with the Body and Blood of Christ.
  • That Reconciliation restores our friendship with God when we have sinned.
  • That some Sacraments are received only once, while others may be received throughout our lives.
  • That sin is a failure to love God and our neighbor and harms our relationship with God.
  • That the Church teaches there are two kinds of sin: mortal sin and venial sin.
  • That mortal sin requires grave matter, full knowledge, and deliberate consent.
  • That venial sin weakens our friendship with God and should also be avoided.
  • That God's mercy is greater than any sin and He always invites us to repent.
  • That Jesus gave us the Sacrament of Reconciliation so our sins can be forgiven.
  • That making a good Confession includes examining our conscience, confessing our sins honestly, receiving absolution, and completing our penance.
  • That through the ministry of the priest, Jesus forgives sins and restores us to His grace.
  • That regular reception of the Sacraments and sincere repentance help us grow in holiness and become the saints God created us to be.
