Objective: Students will learn about being created in the image and likeness of God and the dignity of every human person. They will understand:

  • That God created every human person in His image and likeness.
  • That being made in God's image does not mean God has a human body, because God is pure spirit.
  • That God created every person with intelligence, free will, and an immortal soul.
  • That every human person has equal dignity because each person is created and loved by God.
  • That God created each person on purpose, out of love, and for eternal life with Him.
  • That God created Adam and Eve in a state of original justice and sanctifying grace.
  • That Adam and Eve lived in perfect friendship with God before the Fall.
  • That God gave Adam and Eve special gifts, including harmony with creation, freedom from suffering, and freedom from death.
  • That Adam and Eve freely chose to disobey God by committing Original Sin.
  • That Original Sin caused humanity to lose original justice and sanctifying grace and brought suffering and death into the world.
  • That every human person inherits Original Sin and needs God's saving grace.
  • That God promised a Savior and sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to redeem humanity.
  • That through Baptism, Jesus frees us from Original Sin and restores us to God's grace.
  • That human dignity is never lost, even when a person sins, because every person remains created in God's image.
  • That human life is sacred from the moment of conception until natural death.
  • That God calls us to respect, protect, and love every human person as our neighbor.
  • That by following God's commandments and cooperating with His grace, we grow in holiness and prepare for eternal life with Him in Heaven.
